* Materials that are naturally obtainable, i.e. reed or grass.  The grass is cut by hand with a sickle

* Top-quality Cape thatch reed or commonly known as "dekriet" (Thamnochortus erectus and Thamnochortus specigerus) for an evenly spray layer (sprei laag) inside. The  thatch reed stalks are solid and about 3 to 4mm thick.

* For the outer layer we use a good quality thatching grass (Hyperphilia dissolute). We placed the thatch to a thickness of about 3mm

* After thatching we combed the material to make sure that the stalks are perfectly clean and neat.

* The roof structure normally consists of SABS approved poles, and 25mm-32 mm laths (battens) that have been chemically treated with Tanalith

* Our ground poles are 150mm in diameter to ensure a strong, save and stable structure

* The horizontal frame poles are 100-125mm in diameter and the main rafters are 100-125mm in diameter

* CR Galvanized sheet on top of thatch witch is painted black for easy maintenance (bending)
